Emily Freedman, LCSW Co-Owner/Founder

Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Montgomery County, PA

Hi! My name is Emily Freedman and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Co-Founder of Lilac Therapy Center. I started my career working with children and families in 1996 and then focused my attention on raising my three daughters before returning to private practice as a child and family therapist. I believe therapy is a personal journey that helps people develop insight into past and present experiences to ensure a more positive and healthy present and future. I strive to provide a safe and nurturing environment and see my role as a guide to help navigate through life’s milestones and relationships. The most important foundation of therapy is trust, and this can be hard for many people. I work hard to develop a sense of trust and security with my clients so that we can work together to face challenges and difficult times in a healthy and productive manner.

I’m a therapist for teens, adults, and families.

I have experience helping people manage feelings of anxiety and depression.  Anxiety can come in many different forms including social, test taking/school, separation, OCD, and fears of the unknown. I help people develop coping tools and strategies to manage their anxiety and feel a sense of control over their thoughts and actions. Depression, lack of motivation, and hopelessness can feel overwhelming, so I feel committed to helping people develop skills that will foster feelings of empowerment and fulfillment.  Having survived the stress of raising teenagers three times over, I understand the complex challenges and relationships of this age: not only parent to child, but between siblings, peers, and those impacted and influenced by social media and technology.  I have a specialization in working with parents to help with the emotional and behavioral issues unique to the adolescent years. This includes circumstances at school with academics or peers, emotional stabilization, self-harming behaviors, body image concerns, peer pressure, and bullying. I use humor and a straightforward approach to connect with and truly understand what teenagers are experiencing.  I also work with families that have or are going through divorce and need guidance with co-parenting as well as support with unifying blended families.
